Nausea... part n parcel of pregnancy

wifey felt terrible in the mornin, so we went to our GP for consultation earlier on... well, tis is wat the GP said, for the first trimester, nausea n giddiness is part n parcel of pregnancy... the extend of it varies from person to person.. So long as there is no high fever, immense pain and heavy "spotting", its normal.. Our GP was saying tat the strong nausea tat wifey is having might indicate tat our junior is very strong n produces lots of blood circulation in body, thus the effect Anyway, we learnt tat in terms of medicine, there r categorized to A, B, C and D for expecting mums. Cat A - are clinically tested n proven, its medicine like Folic Acid n Vit C Cat B - are medicines that r tested but hv very mild effect n doesnt induce into the blood, thus not affecting the babies Cat C - not recommended, but alternative to Cat B, should condition worsen Cat D - Definate NO-NO! Doc prescribed some Cat B medicine to help w the nausea but was told to not take it unless really need to. She also said tat its going to be a roller coaster ride till the nx trimester, so just bear with it... poor wifey.. Well, since she is restin, i shall go out to get some work then.. those readin the blog, give some advice n opinion leh... :)

Sea Band..

Have u all heard of Sea-Band.. well for the benefit of those who havent', its actually a strap with a button which presses on ur Nei Kuan point. It helps in relieving Travel and Morning Sickness... so for those of u who has tis problem, can try it out... Here is how it looks like.. I bought it from Guardian Pharmacy in AMK Central, somehow rather asked 2 NTUC Pharmacy cant' get..

Talking about tis, it was quite ironic tat i actually chatted up with the pharmacist who was a lady, and she was PREGGIE too!! Haha!

She even told me tat who says pregnant women cannot eat bananas? She "bochup" n still eats them!! Also, she did say tat aside to Vit C, Vit B6 is also good for helping nausea.

My god, its past midnight! Need to get some work done, my bloody notebook crashed on me n i got it fixed only late tis afternoon! Darn!

Till again, here's something to share:

" I'd rather fail while trying to succeed than succeed in failing by not trying." - Todd Kille

Why the disapperance?

for those followers... why the disappearance u might want to ask... well, this is why... There is an old sayings by our parents generation tat ... "Don't publicly announce ur pregnancy to many people in the early stages, reason for being tat the little one might not be pleased and will give you a hard time" Maybe if u can leave ur comments, then i will tabulate the results.. how many of u practise tis? Actually, the disapperance is not fully tis reason, have been very bz, with the arrival of our junior, i need to relook at the whole plan for tis year.. career/business especially. Wifey have also been not feelin too well, giddy, nauseous, vomitting.. but guess tat's wat it is like in early stages uh.. am i right?

Its Weekend!

It's weekend, and we didn't really do much cause wifey still feeling pretty much nauseated.. Saturday, we went to mum's place for awhile to hv lunch, then went out to buy some groceries.. headed back home after tat.. Today, well, did the house chores n cooked porridge w carrot, potatoes n minced meat. Also cooked some vege, spinach.. think read somewhere tat its supposed to b good... also made some mashed potatoes mixed w carrot n "blended" w low fat margarine, figured tat tis is more filling n easier to eat... anyway, here i am now, doing some work n while takin break, updating tis blog for awhile.. i read tat ginger tea/ginger ale is good; or those sea band thingy (where it pushes the acupoint below ur wrist) for curing nausea, where to get uh? Anyone knows?

Is it true??

People says that by looking at good looking babies, urs will turn out to be the same? Fact or myth? Maybe u can share with us.. Anyway, we like these pictures cos its simply so adorable, so we bought them n voila, its in our master room now! Heee... Ps taken w low res so tat no copyright infringement. hahaha!

Interesting article on curing nausea..

wifey has been complaining of feeling nausea past few days, decided to see if can find any interesting article, found one... for ur reading.. Ideas for Minimizing Nausea Remember, all of these are just ideas that have worked for some people. There are no guarantees! Not all of these suggestions will work for you, and sometimes nothing works. All you can do in that case is endure while trying to minimize the impact on your pregnancy, and seek help if needed. 1. Keep your blood sugar levels even by eating small, frequent meals high in protein and complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates (foods high in sugar and even unsweetened fruit juice) are turned quickly into blood sugar in your system. Complex carbohydrates take longer to turn into blood sugar, so they will keep your blood sugars from spiking quickly and then dropping, and will provide longer-term energy. High fiber foods, fats, and proteins also slow down the carbohydrate conversion, which will keep your blood sugar more even. Never eat carbohydrates without an accompanying fat or protein food. Frequent small snacks work better for nausea than big meals. Try eating 5-6 small meals or snacks a day, and be sure to eat before bedtime. Also, carry with you a portable snack such as nuts and fruit or cheese and crackers for use if you start feeling nauseous---even though it's very hard to try and eat when you feel queasy, you may be able to prevent a worse nausea episode if you do get something down). 2. Eat before you are hungry. If you wait until your body tells you it is hungry, you may already have lowered your blood sugar too much and the acid production in your stomach may also worsen nausea. Strike first by eating frequent small snacks (a carbohydrate and a protein are best) before your blood sugar has a chance to dip. Also, eating while you are still feeling relatively good will help food go down and perhaps stay down, and may prevent a nausea attack. Try not to let more than 3-4 hours go by between eating something. 3. Eat a substantial bedtime snack, including protein. It's a long time between your last meal of the day and your breakfast the next morning, so it's very easy for blood sugar to become too low during this time, causing nausea upon rising. Shortly before bedtime, try eating a fairly significant snack of complex carbohydrates and protein. The protein will help slow down the release of the complex carbohydrates, enabling you to have more steady blood sugar levels through the night. Sometimes, some women even need to get up in the middle of the night and get a little extra snack, like a glass of milk, in order to help their morning nausea. It's worth a try! 4. Try eating before getting out of bed in the morning, then take it slowly. Before getting out of bed in the morning (like 20-30 minutes ahead of time), have a high-carbohydrate snack. Common suggestions are crackers, but some women find other foods work better. Experiment till you find your best choice (some like salty foods, others do not). Once you are up, ease yourself into the day as gradually as your schedule allows; rushing and quick movements at first tend to aggravate nausea. Give the morning snack a chance to take effect and raise your blood sugar. 5. Be sure to get enough fluids. Dehydration is a danger to those with nausea, so it is important to stay hydrated. Some women find they tolerate fluids best with meals; others find it better to take them only between meals. Small sips, taken frequently, may also help. Remember, fruit juices are a simple carb and may cause a quick surge and then crash in some women, so try to use water instead (or at least take a protein with your fruit juice). If fluids give you a lot of trouble, try fruits and vegetables with a high water content. You may also want to consult your health provider if you are having trouble keeping down fluids. 6. Try ginger. Some women reportedly have luck with small amounts of ginger added to their food. Be careful not to use too much, however. (Good excuse for a ginger ale.) 7. Be sure to take your prenatal vitamin, but try switching brands or times. Some women note a sensitivity to certain prenatal vitamin brands, especially the prescription type. Try switching for a week to an over-the-counter brand (be sure it has enough folic acid), or try asking your doctor for a different prescription type. Sometimes changing the time of day that you take the vitamin can help---try taking it at the time of day when you have the least nausea (if there is such a time!). Bedtime may be a good choice. 8. Ask your health provider about trying extra vitamin B-6. Some women find relief if they add extra vitamin B-6 to their diet. 50 mg. is usually the dosage tried, but remember to clear it first with your health provider (very important!). 9. Avoid trigger foods and substitute alternatives as needed; get enough protein. Some foods seem to act as triggers to nausea. If carrots bother you, avoid them for a while. However, it IS important to substitute something else for the important vitamin A to be found in carrots. An alternative might be dried apricots, squash, cantaloupe, or even--if desperate-- pumpkin pie or muffins (in conservative amounts!). Try to keep a variety of foods as much as possible, and be creative in your choices so that the essential nutrients are covered. Don't forget the importance of significant amounts of protein in your diet as well---Brewer recommends 80-100 g of protein per day (but remember that foods like milk, yogurt, and even spinach do have protein in them and count towards this total). 10. Rinse or brush after throwing up. Having the smell or taste of vomit in your mouth after one bout can lead to another. Try brushing your teeth afterwards, but if you are one of the people for whom brushing can induce nausea, try a gentle rinsing instead. Over time you will find your physical triggers (such as brushing, strong smells, or moving too fast) and you will learn to avoid them or adapt to them. But finding a way to refresh yourself after a bout of nausea is important--do whatever works for you. 11. Try Sea Bands. These small bands worn on each wrist put pressure on the inner wrist and often help nausea. They have no side effects and can be found at many pharmacies or marine shops. They are also worth a shot when desperate. Nausea is not an easy thing to deal with and no one should downplay the discomfort involved. Try as many approaches to managing nausea as you can but be realistic---no suggestion is going to 'cure' you. Sometimes, all you can do is endure. For most women, it does go away with time, and often it is worst in the first 3-4 months. You may or may not experience it again in subsequent pregnancies; each pregnancy is different and you must be prepared for the possibilities. In the meantime, hang in there and try to wait it out! It will end eventually! taken, compliments from Copyright © 1996-1997 Kmom@Vireday.Com. All rights reserved. http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/handling.htm hope tis is useful to some..

HAHA! ps tis evening will cook fish soup for wifey n maybe accompany her go get some flat platform shoes.. :) Hv a great day all!!

Now to the geez of it

Now to the geez of the blog.. Feb 13th, wifey was complaining of giddiness. for awhile i tot she "kk" to avoid going work, haha! But she was indeed not feeling too good, so asked her to rest, no fever thou. I went to market to get some brunch and at same time some veggie to cook. And while doing tat, all sudden felt an "inner" voice tellin me to clear my doubts.. if wifey preggie? HAHA! SO, went to NTUC Pharmacy n got the ClearBlue pregnancy test kit! Evening it cooled down abit but wifey had not much appetite to eat, so I cooked some porridge. Porridge with ginger, pork ball added with sesame oil and cooked cabbage, snow peas and french beans stir fried.. After dinner, she went to test using the ClearBlue kit, heart was pumping ... fast and furious!! TWO CLEAR DISTINCT LINES!! Wifey is pregnant!!! Was estactic and overjoyed, but becos wifey was not sure of her menses cycle, we wanted a confirmation.. so decided to go a GP tomorrow to "double" confirm, sounds silly uh.. haha Feb 14th, Valentine's Day? Hambug, think tis day is made up by the card n gifts ppl, haha! Anyway, why should u wait till tis day to show ur loved ones how much u care, anyday also can wat! haha Well, its morning, we decided to go down to the GP to verify the results. Same routine, test urine, then wait... Confirmed and Double Confirmed!! Wifey is preggie!! But becos wifey didnt know her cycles, we don know how many weeks the little jr is.. so GP adviced us to go for a dating scan... We were contemplating as to either go do it now or wait till she finishes her Folic Acid?? After some deliberation, we can't resist the curiousity to find out how many weeks little jr is, thus the scouring through the internet on which gynae is good.. here is a link i found quite interesting... http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/cgi-bin/forumboard/discus.cgi?pg=prev&topic=36738&page=107303 We also made some calls for recommendation, finally made up our mind and went to one in AMK Central. We made appointment for 1530hrs, left house bout 1430hrs. We went for lunch first then proceeded to the clinic. Well, wifey went for the so called "routine checks", blood pressure, urine for sugar level, weight n etc. We waited in suspense after tat to see the gynae.. The front desk... "U may go in now" Well, we went in, the gynae went thru with us some questions on the family medical history. Btw, its a lady gynae cos wifey prefers one. After going thru the questions, she asked me to stay n wifey went for the dating scan. I was not allowed to see... hmm, is tat a standard practise? Anyway, wifey says can see a pouch only n according to the gynae should b bout few weeks old... The gynae also said the following: NO RAW FOOD NO COLD STUFF NOT TOO MUCH CHINESE HERBS FRUITS NEEDS SKIN TO B PEELED Thereafter, wifey was given more vit C for the little one n her.. Tat was it, only a 15 mins affair. Was told to come back in 3 weeks time for follow-up, should be able to by then see the little one forming. Overall, the gynae was very exprerienced n confident, wifey quite comfortable w her (also partly recommended by a close friend) but was telling her tat perhaps we can also try another gynae just to see the difference. And man the experience of 15 mins did cost alot, $100! Wa, maybe we will let our junior go take up this course next time! So, we headed home after tat... calls were made, congratulations was sent!!! haha, Counting Down!!
